• DownloaderHelper extension for FireFox (or any video downloader)
• RAR Extractor
• a video player that plays .flv video (or convert it using DownloaderHelper)
• HyperCam 3 (.rar file, this is where the extractor helps)
• Gif editor (allows control over each frame, compression, and it’s fucking awesome)

Let’s begin!

First, you need to download the video using the DownloaderHelper extension.

Open both Hypercam and the downloaded video in a media player.

Click the Options tab on Hypercam. Under Video, use Uncompressed video in the dropdown menu, 10.00 in both the record and playback boxes, and choose the output folder for the recordings.

Manipulate the red bounding box to put your potential scene from the media player into frame. (HyperCam makes a weird watermark at the upper left frame, so you need to crop it out in the Gif editor.)

Once you have your scene lined up with the bounding box, record the shit out of that video. (Make sure you’re recording less than ten seconds at a time, because that will be a LOT of frames to edit. Record, stop, playback, then repeat)

Once all the scenes have been recorded, open the .avi files from your selected output library with your gif animator.

Delete unnecessary frames, add text, resize, or whatever you want, then save the file as a GIF image.

You have now finished your gif! (To make sure your gif can display on tumblr, MAKE SURE IT IS UNDER 1MB! {Also, choose the “Best” option in the pixel quality. Optimizing will make the file size smaller, anyway} You can easily do this in Ulead by clicking the Optimize tab and choosing Photo-### under the presets bar.)
